SUMMARY:Spuyten Duyvil in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Spuyten Duyvil is to standard folk music what a monsoon is to rain. Rich Warren\, host of The Midnight Special on WFMT says that seeing a Spuyten Duyvil show for the first time is like “throwing a cherry bomb into a lake”. \nNo Depression Magazine calls Spuyten Duyvil “infused in blues and smoked with folk”. The New York Times offers up a two word summation of their sound; “Raucous Roots”. \nDescribed as a “mighty powerhouse” by The Huffington Post\, they exude the energy needed to hold down the stage at storied gatherings like The Philadelphia Folk Festival\, where they are repeat performers\, and also closer to home at the Clearwater and Falcon Ridge Folk Festivals. \nSpuyten Duyvil’s most recent album; The Social Music Hour Vol. 1 was nominated for The Intentional Folk Music Awards Album Of The Year in 2016\, and has received extensive air play and uniformly positive reviews. \nThe Empire State Railway Museum is located at 70 Lower High Street in Phoenicia\, New York. Tickets are $17 at the door or $15 with an advance RSVP. Show time is 7:30 p.m. and the doors open at 7:00 p.m. This is an intimate venue with seating for approximately 50 guests. \nSeats can be reserved by emailing us at flyingcatmusic@gmail.com or by calling Flying Cat Music at 845-688-9453. RSVPs must be received by 5:00 p.m. on the day of the show in order to confirm seat availability. Advance seats can only be guaranteed until 7:20 p.m.\, so please arrive early to claim them. \nWebsite for Spuyten Duyvil \nLive Video of Spuyten Duyvil playing “Daniel”

SUMMARY:AND - by Aynsley Vandenbroucke
DESCRIPTION:Aynsley Vandenbroucke\nAnd \nSaturday\, July 22 8:00 pm / Sunday\, July 23 3:00 pm / Tickets $20 \n“Aynsley Vandenbroucke has been exploring the relation of literary formalism to the human body in a way few writers\, if any\, are doing.” —Hyperallergic \nIn And\, Aynsley Vandenbroucke uses experimental literary devices to create a series of live\, three-dimensional essays. She plays with lines between fact and fiction\, narrative and abstraction\, legibility and complexity. She works with—and against—the role of formal structures in writing\, moving\, and making a life. \nSome words that tussle for prominence in the piece are: art\, life\, teaching\, body\, marriage\, knowing\, divorce\, friendship\, contradiction\, form\, home\, house\, community\, uncertainty\, gentleness\, question\, power\, sex\, dance. \nCalled “gifted” by the New Yorker and “an elegant sensitive thinker” by the New York Times\, Aynsley Vandenbroucke has been making performance in NYC since 2000. She co-founded Mount Tremper Arts and served as co-curator there until 2014. Vandenbroucke teaches at Princeton University and is obsessed with the relationships between reading\, writing\, learning to live\, and making dance. \nPurchase tickets online here\, or call 845-688-9893.

SUMMARY:Decoder 2017: The Ticket That Exploded
DESCRIPTION:Mallory Catlett / Restless NYC\nDecoder 2017: The Ticket That Exploded\nIn parternership with The Chocolate Factory Theater\nSaturday\, July 8\, 2017 / 8:00 pm / Tickets $15 / Preview \nDecoder 2017 is a three-part concert series exploring the language and prophecies of William S. Burroughs on the merging of body\, media\, and machine. This interactive performance is generated live by cassette-tape DJ and sound artist G Lucas Crane and performer Jim Findlay\, who act as both fictional characters and real-time systems operators. Together they create a cut-up of internet trash\, cinematic dreamscapes\, and obscene routines that expose our complicity in the systems that control us. \nCreator/ director Mallory Catlett began Restless NYC to reconstruct canonical literary and theatrical works into performances that engage the past in a dialogue about its life in the present. In 2014 This Was the End\, her remix of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya\, won Obie\, Bessie\, and Henry Hewes Awards. In 2015 Catlett received a Foundation for Contemporary Arts grant. Decoder 2017 is based on Burroughs’ Nova Trilogy and part of M/F Future\, a project about how we imagine what we’ll become.

SUMMARY:Mary Gauthier in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Saturday May 6\, 2017 – 7pm\nMary Gauthier has become one of Americana music’s most admired artists—across the U.S. and in her regular tours around the world.” – The Wall Street Journal \n“…her razor-sharp eye for detail and her commitment to unsentimental self-reflection puts her in a class with greats such as Kris Kristofferson\, John Prine and yes\, Bob Dylan.” – The Los Angeles Times \nWhat do Alabama Shakes\, Mumford & Sons\, and Mary Gauthier have in common? They are all prior winners of the Americana Music Association’s New/Emerging Artist of the Year award. Mary took home that award in 2005. \nThe Associated Press calls Mary Gauthier one of the best songwriters of her generation. Drag Queens in Limousines\, off of Gauthier’s second CD of the same name\, won best Folk/Singer-Songwriter Song at the first Annual Independent Music Awards in 1999. Her third album\, 2002’s Filth and Fire\, was named #1 Best Independent CD of the year by Jon Pareles of the New York Times.  Her 2005 release\, Mercy Now\, was named in the top five records of the decade by No Depression magazine. \nHer most recent release\, Trouble And Love\, was included in  Rolling Stone’s feature “The 26 Albums of 2014 You Probably Didn’t But Really Should Hear\, where they said of it: \n “Every tune is a rough gem of melody\, misery and economy\, as Gauthier excavates romantic wreckage like an archaeologist telling the story of a fossilized love.” \nMary Gauthier put it well when she once said\, “There’s no such thing as going too deep.” \nThe Empire State Railway Museum is located at 70 Lower High Street in Phoenicia\, New York. Tickets are $23  at the door or $20 with an advance RSVP.
