DESCRIPTION:Hubby Jenkins is an acclaimed soloist who explores the history of Americana music through the lens of the African-Americans who helped create it. \nA talented multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar\, banjo\, and bones\, and sings with a rich tenor voice\, Jenkins was an integral part of the Grammy award-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops from 2010 to 2014. From 2015 to 2018 he was active as a touring and recording member of the Rhiannon Giddens band. Since then\, he has pursued a solo career with performances around the world including the 2023 Smithsonian Folklife Festival. \nJenkins was born and raised in Brooklyn\, where his parents filled the house with blues\, salsa\, soul\, and the Beatles. At 13\, he heard retro singer-songwriter Lenny Kravitz for the first time. It was a revelation: a young black artist not rapping or playing soul or funk.“ It opened up this whole thing for me\, this idea of what black people could be in pop culture\,” Jenkins said. Her most prominent voice acting role featured her as FBI agent Alexandria Thoman in the New York Times podcast “The Daily”\, acting alongside Broadway alum Stephen Pasquale. She is excited to expand her menagerie of voices in this show. \nRebecca Brown Adelman’s local acting credits include: Jane in Richard Nelson’s Sweet and Sad\, Agatha in Jen Silverman’s The Moors both with Performing Arts of Woodstock\, Sarah Bernhardt in Theresa Rebeck’s Bernhardt/Hamlet at the Center for Performing Arts Rhinebeck\, Julia Gibbs in Our Town and Tess in Jordan Harrison’s Marjorie Prime both at the Phoenicia Playhouse. Beyond acting\, Rebecca is an applied theatre practitioner\, writer\, director\, and improviser. While living in Colorado\, she was a longtime ensemble member of improvisational theatre companies Playback Theatre West and One Act. She is the co founder of a theatre for social change consulting company called Affinity Arts Consulting and travels around the country using theatre to facilitate dialogues and opportunities for communities to address important social justice issues. Brookside Wander is an example of how restoration of degraded streamside areas into native plant communities can help to reduce flooding and erosion while supporting improved water quality and a diverse\, healthy ecosystem. \n“We are thrilled to celebrate the completion of this project with the public“ said Posie Strenz\, Creative Projects Coordinator at the Emerson. “We invite everyone to join us at Brookside Wander for the ribbon cutting and a brief presentation to learn about its purpose from Bobby Taylor\, the Acting Stream Project Manager with Ulster County Soil & Water Conservation District\, and Tim Koch\, the Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program Stream Education Leader with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt has been a great joy to be part of this team effort with Bobby Taylor of Catskill Streams Buffer Initiative over the last several years on the creation and completion of this educational garden. I was tasked with creating an educational field trip and asked Leslie Zucker at Cornell Cooperative Extension at the Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program about creating an outdoor zone on Emerson property for hands-on learning about the control of invasive species and streamside management. She put us in touch with Bobby Taylor of Catskill Streams Buffer Initiative\, who reviewed the property and found the perfect spot for this native riparian buffer. After all the project planning aspects were tackled and the main area was planned and planted in 2019\, I thought we should convert additional adjacent space into an open classroom that leads into the garden paths. Mr. Taylor has done an outstanding job in all phases of this project\, from coordinating with project partners\, creating the planting plans and doing the actual planting\, through choosing and planting appropriate trees among other aspects of the outdoor classroom\, to developing with me the informational panels that now grace the space.” \nWith the installation of informational panels complete\, Brookside Wander provides an educational oasis. The public is welcome to visit and learn about all aspects and benefits of having native plants to help sustain the flora and fauna of the region as well as the health of any watershed in which you may live. Marc Black and Jeff Entin are two of those icons. \nMarc Black says that being a songwriter is not just something that he does\, it’s who he is. Since his teens\, he’s been using songwriting as a way to make sense of the world. While still in high school\, his band the Blades of Grass reached the Top Forty and performed alongside the biggest acts of the day\, including the Doors\, Van Morrison\, and Neil Diamond. Black became known for his fingerstyle blues in the tradition of Mississippi John Hurt\, Lightin’ Hopkins\, and Tim Hardin. \nBlack has recorded more than a dozen CDs including one “pick hit” in Billboard Magazine and another that was recognized as a minor masterpiece by famed music producer John Hammond\, Sr. He has performed and recorded with such musical luminaries as Art Garfunkel\, Taj Mahal\, Richie Havens\, Rick Danko\, and Pete Seeger\, to name a few. He was recently named Folk Artist of the Year on ABC Radio\, and a winner at the Kerrville Folk Festival. Black’s song “No Fracking Way\,” recorded with John Sebastian\, has become a worldwide anthem for the anti-fracking movement. One of his recent CD’s\, Pictures of the Highway\, remained in the top 5 of the Roots Rock Internet top 50 for six months. DESCRIPTION:Mary Gauthier is a Grammy-nominated American country/folk singer/songwriter and critically acclaimed author whose dark atmospheres and tales of marginalized people draw on her early experiences with addiction and recovery and growing up gay in southern Louisiana. \nEach song on Gauthier’s 2019 Grammy-nominated tenth album Rifles & Rosary Beads delivered a gut punch: deceptively simple and emotionally complex. DESCRIPTION:Dana Cooper’s lifelong passion and devotion to music began in Kansas City at age two. His earliest memory is of his father taking him to the Calico Cat\, popping a coin in the jukebox\, and singing along with Hank Williams and Ernest Tubb. \nFast forward to age 20\, when a move to L.A. resulted in a deal with Elektra Records. He recorded his first album with members of “The Section\,” Russ Kunkel and Leland Sklar\, as well as other luminaries such as Jim Horn\, Al Perkins\, Jim Gordon\, Joe Osborne\, and Lee Holdridge. The album still wins accolades today and was recently reissued on the Warner/Japan label. \nAfter several years in California and a year recording in Seattle\, Cooper moved to Texas where he wrote and performed with Shake Russell. They released several independent albums and one album for Southcoast/MCA. In 1988\, Cooper moved to Nashville to continue to hone his songwriting skills. \nCooper’s great success as a troubadour can be measured by his impressive 28 albums and an extensive collection of positive reviews and awards. His latest release\, 2022’s I Can Face the Truth\, landed on five different radio charts — Americana\, Indie Folk\, Alt Folk\, Alt Country\, and Roots. It also ranked #22 on Top Albums for 2022 Chart from Americana Highways\, which deemed it “an unmitigated triumph.” \nCooper is a recipient of the In the Spirit of Folk Award from Folk Alliance International\, and a Best Male Songwriter Award from the Indie Acoustic Project.
