SUMMARY:Janis Her Life and Music
DESCRIPTION:Holly George-Warren “Janis Her Life and Music” book reading and signing with the music of Janis Joplin brought to life by Robert Burke Warren \nand Calder Mansfield\, Saturday November 16\, 4-6pm as \n\nCommunity Week Returns to the Emerson Resort & Spa\nLectures\, Activities\, and Special Discounts for Local Residents\n\n\n\n\nMt. Tremper\, Catskills\, New York (October 28\, 2019) – The Emerson Resort & Spa presents its third annual Community Week\, November 11-16\, 2018.  During this week\, the Emerson invites the community to enjoy lectures\, book readings and signings\, musical performances\, and onsite activities either complimentary or at a discount to the public.  Details can be found here: https://emersonresort.com/events/community-week-2019/. The finale of Community Week is on Saturday\, November 16\, 2019 with a book reading and signing of Holly George-Warren’s new book Janis Her Life and Music\, with Robert Burke Warren and Calder Mansfield bringing the music of Janis Joplin to life during the event\, 4-6pm\, in the Great Room of the Emerson. All are welcome. Co-hosted with the Golden Notebook bookstore.\n \nThere is no charge for this event. \n\n\nFrom publisher Simon & Schuster:\n\n\n“In this excellent biography\, George-Warren (A Man Called Destruction: The Life and Music of Alex Chilton) paints a complex portrait of singer Janis Joplin…beautifully tells a moving story of a woman whose life and music inspired a generation.”Publishers Weekly\n“This superb biography captures singer Janis Joplin’s complex essence…This poignant and ultimately tragic account of an iconic performer is a must for Joplin fans\, but anyone who enjoys a good biography will appreciate this exceptional work.”Library Journal\n“Gripping.”VANITY FAIR\n“A must-read.”AARP MAGAZINE\n“A richly detailed\, affectionate portrait of the legendary singer…George-Warren gives her subject a sensitive yet honest treatment\, showing all dimensions of Joplin’s life without minimizing her self-destructive side. Filled with evocations of the San Francisco music scene at its height\, the narrative will give readers new appreciation for Joplin. A top-notch biography of one of the greatest performers to emerge from a brilliant era.”KIRKUS REVIEWS\n“George-Warren has written a biography as big\, bold\, and brash as its subject. She captures Joplin in all her frustrating and poignant complexity…an insightful\, compassionate\, and\, ultimately\, tragic story of an artist gone too soon.”Booklist\n“How Janis Joplin\, an unconventional tomboy from Port Arthur\, Texas\, became rock and roll’s gravel-voiced queen.”PEOPLE\n“Impressive…Like Joplin herself\, Janis delivers the most thrilling sort of pathos.”Texas Observer\n“Empathetic new biography channels Janis Joplin’s own voice.”Mojo Magazine\n“A revelatory portrait of Joplin.”Bustle\n“This book is not even out yet but it’s been touted as perhaps the most comprehensive\, definitive biography of the iconic ’60s wailer. Journalist George-Warren got unprecedented access to the star’s archives and delves deep\, weaving a complicated portrayal of a rock icon.”Buzzfeed News\n“Holly George-Warren provides a moving account of Janis’s complex and painful life.”The Literary South\n“Exceptional.”NO DEPRESSION
