SUMMARY:Japanese Knotweed presentation by CRISP
DESCRIPTION:The Catskill Regional Invasive Species Partnership (CRISP) and the Emerson Resort & Spa invite you to attend a complimentary Japanese Knotweed presentation by CRISP at the Emerson Resort & Spa on June 9th at 1:00-2:30pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJapanese Knotweed is a common streamside and roadside invader that can reproduce from the tiniest root fragment\, and it has been expanding along many Catskill rivers and streams.\n\n\n\nJapanese Knotweed is exceedingly difficult to manage and CRISP staff will discuss options for management; they will cover current best management practices\, experimental methods\, and the future of Japanese Knotweed biocontrol. And we will take a short walk to a nearby Japanese Knotweed infestation for a close-up look at the plant and discussion on how site factors impact management options and decisions.\n\n\n\nTo sign up or for more info go to:\n\n\nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf81brNEQCS308UKBb3PP3CJJwVEzQ9HdvPbjn_T4d-RMNLuQ/viewform. Or call the Emerson reservations department at 845-688-2828 option 0 if you want to register by phone. Event is capped at 30 people but we currently have plenty of space. Please share this link with anyone who could benefit. \n@catskills.invasives

SUMMARY:Exploring Ancient Phoenicia Part 3 - Protecting These Sacred Mountains
DESCRIPTION:In this third in a series of multimedia lectures Evan Pritchard will share some of his research regarding the high sacred places of Phoenicia and the surrounding Catskills\, especially regarding mountains located within Shandaken township. He will discuss Algonquin metaphysical beliefs surrounding mountains and the spiritual role they play\, as sacred sites and vision quest retreats. He will go into detail regarding what are called “cairns” (a Celtic term) or “Manitouassin” sacred stone piles (petroforms) and their mysterious alignments\, as well as the famous Montauk-Hammonassett Solstice Line which passes through the so-called “Devil’s Tombstone.” \nHe will again explore local lore and linguistics\, and the lore surrounding Panther Mountain and the seven sacred springs which are the source of seven rivers of great importance to the Esopus Munsee of our region including their portages. He will also revisit local trade routes to discuss not only where they lead but what items travelers might have been trading. As before he will integrate his latest research with earlier studies by noted scholars such as Alf Evers\, Michael Kudish and Glenn Kreisberg\, and files from The Shandaken and Time and the Valleys Museums\, offering a smorgasbord of surprises no one will want to miss. \nZoom link –

SUMMARY:How To Have a Successful Garden in White Tail Deer Country
DESCRIPTION:After a long winter\, gardeners look forward to the growing season for fresh vegetables and flowers from their gardens. Part of making it a rewarding experience is knowing how to deal with insects\, diseases\, rabbits\, woodchucks and deer. The deer population has exploded\, making them a primary garden pest. But deer don’t have to win the battle\, according to Wendy Tremper Wollerton\, a seasoned gardener\, who spent more than 25 years living on a property heavily trafficked by deer.\n\nBy trial and error\, attending classes and listening to the advice of others\, she developed a large garden\, not fenced\, where deer could walk through but were not interested in the plants. Learn what plants are not “deer candy”\, different choices in fencing and deterrents that can lead to a beautiful garden.\n\nYou can join via Zoom – shorturl.at/hovSU\nor go to the library website or Facebook page
