SUMMARY:Matt Nakoa - Live in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Matt Nakoa is an award-winning songwriter\, singer\, and multi-instrument who was born on a small goat farm near Syracuse\, NY. As a teen\, he traveled throughout the Catskills and Adirondacks performing classical piano. He won a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music\, where he discovered his songwriting ability and was selected to collaborate with Grammy winner Kathy Mattea during her residency there. In 2014\, Nakoa won the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk songwriting competition. After Berklee\, he landed in New York City’s vibrant piano bar scene. It was in the Big Apple’s all-night piano bars that Nakoa developed an uncanny ability to command the attention of any audience. He became a star performer at the famous Brandy’s Piano Bar\, with lines waiting outside the door each Saturday night. \nAirPlayDirect has described Nakoa’s music as a blend of swanky mod-rock with a dark classicism\, producing a lyrical and dangerously infectious sound. His energetic vocals evoke Freddie Mercury and Jeff Buckley\, and his soulful yet simple lyrics appeal to the generations. A recent album\, Casting Shadows\, described as a spellbinding blend of pop\, soul\, and classical influences\, tells a story of childhood dreams crashing headlong into a grownup reality. \nFolk luminary Tom Rush\, with whom Nakoa regularly plays when Rush is touring\, calls international artist Nakoa “a black-belt musical wizard\,” adding\, “I’m hoping he’ll let me open for him when he’s doing stadiums.” Rich Warren\, the host of the Midnight Special\, WFMT Chicago\, has these kind words for Matt\, “All I can say is wow! Phenomenal high tenor voice\, outstanding musicianship\, and songs that grab the heart.” \n“…between his piano chops\, charismatic stage presence\, and heartfelt originals on guitar\, [Nakoa} drops jaws.” – Boston Globe \n“Matt Nakoa left us breathless…The music was of a symphonic scale and showstopping\, cosmic proportion.” –Elmore Magazine \nhttps://mattnakoa.com/ \n$20 in advance $23 at the door

SUMMARY:Hubby Jenkins - Live in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Hubby Jenkins is an acclaimed soloist who explores the history of Americana music through the lens of the African-Americans who helped create it. \nA talented multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar\, banjo\, and bones\, and sings with a rich tenor voice\, Jenkins was an integral part of the Grammy award-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops from 2010 to 2014. From 2015 to 2018 he was active as a touring and recording member of the Rhiannon Giddens band. Since then\, he has pursued a solo career with performances around the world including the 2023 Smithsonian Folklife Festival. \nJenkins was born and raised in Brooklyn\, where his parents filled the house with blues\, salsa\, soul\, and the Beatles. At 13\, he heard retro singer-songwriter Lenny Kravitz for the first time. It was a revelation: a young black artist not rapping or playing soul or funk.“ It opened up this whole thing for me\, this idea of what black people could be in pop culture\,” Jenkins said. He began perfecting his guitar and vocal craft on the sidewalks and subway platforms of New York City and then took his show on the road\, playing the streets\, coffee houses\, bars\, and house parties of cities around the U.S. \nIn creating his own musical identity\, Jenkins followed the thread of African American history that weaves itself through America’s traditional music forms\, specifically of the string music most frequently associated with white musicians in the South. \n“I like to describe my music as traditional American music\,” Jenkins states. “I like to play blues\, rags\, banjo and fiddle tunes\, gospel\, early country\, and jazz. There are stories behind a lot of the songs I play that illuminate dark and hidden parts of our history and connect to the current context of African Americans today.” \nHe shares these stories and his love of old-time American music through his dynamic solo performances\, festival appearances\, and engaging workshops. \n“[Jenkins]brilliantly exemplifies the commonality of the new generation of African American songsters\, in spirit and music: intelligent\, articulate\, well-educated in the history of the music\, energetic and exciting\, with something important to say lyrically – all with virtuosic instrumental skills.” –Frank Matheis\, Living Blues Magazine. \nwww.hubbyjenkins.com \n$18 in advance $20 at the door

SUMMARY:Marc Black featuring Amy Fradon with opener Jeff Entin
DESCRIPTION:It is always a great pleasure when Woodstock area musical icons come together to perform. Marc Black and Jeff Entin are two of those icons. \nMarc Black says that being a songwriter is not just something that he does\, it’s who he is. Since his teens\, he’s been using songwriting as a way to make sense of the world. While still in high school\, his band the Blades of Grass reached the Top Forty and performed alongside the biggest acts of the day\, including the Doors\, Van Morrison\, and Neil Diamond. Black became known for his fingerstyle blues in the tradition of Mississippi John Hurt\, Lightin’ Hopkins\, and Tim Hardin. \nBlack has recorded more than a dozen CDs including one “pick hit” in Billboard Magazine and another that was recognized as a minor masterpiece by famed music producer John Hammond\, Sr. He has performed and recorded with such musical luminaries as Art Garfunkel\, Taj Mahal\, Richie Havens\, Rick Danko\, and Pete Seeger\, to name a few. He was recently named Folk Artist of the Year on ABC Radio\, and a winner at the Kerrville Folk Festival. Black’s song “No Fracking Way\,” recorded with John Sebastian\, has become a worldwide anthem for the anti-fracking movement. One of his recent CD’s\, Pictures of the Highway\, remained in the top 5 of the Roots Rock Internet top 50 for six months. Black was inducted into the New York Chapter of the Blues Hall of Fame in June of 2014. \nHe spends much of his time on the road\, playing festivals\, clubs\, arts centers\, libraries\, and house concerts. \n“Marc is a master at spreading the joy of music.” – Happy Traum \n“Marc Black carves something beautiful out of life’s rawest emotions.” – JD Goldsmith\, Pulse Magazine \nJeff Entin is an area resident who’s been writing and performing all his life. He is known for his genial stage presence\, highly accomplished musicianship\, improvisation\, song writing\, and a unique approach to covering a wide variety of other artists. Audiences familiar with Flying Cat Music who may have noted the handsome graphic design of our posters and flyers might be surprised to learn we owe it all to our volunteer graphic designer Jeff Entin. \nwww.marcblack.com \n$18 in advance $20 at the door \nPhoto copyright TED SPIEGEL

SUMMARY:An Evening with Mary Gauthier and Robbie Fulks
DESCRIPTION:Mary Gauthier is a Grammy-nominated American country/folk singer/songwriter and critically acclaimed author whose dark atmospheres and tales of marginalized people draw on her early experiences with addiction and recovery and growing up gay in southern Louisiana. \nEach song on Gauthier’s 2019 Grammy-nominated tenth album Rifles & Rosary Beads delivered a gut punch: deceptively simple and emotionally complex. From the opening “Soldiering On” (“What saves you in the battle/Can kill you at home”) to “Bullet Holes in the Sky” (“They thank me for my service/And wave their little flags/They genuflect on Sundays/And yes\, they’d send us back”)\, all eleven songs were co-written with wounded veterans as part of the five-year-old Songwriting With: Soldiers program. Participants of the program have said the experience of songwriting was life-changing. \nGauthier’s first nine albums presented extraordinary confessional songs\, deeply personal\, profoundly emotional pieces ranging from “I Drink\,” a blunt accounting of addiction\, to “March 11\, 1962\,” the day she was born — and relinquished to an orphanage — to “Worthy\,” in which the singer finally understands that she is deserving of love. A number of her studio albums have gone Gold or Platinum in the U.S. \nIn her 2021 memoir\, Gauthier said: “Writing helps me sort out confusion\, untangle powerful emotions\, and ward off desperation. It helps me navigate the powerful emotional weather systems of life.” \nGauthier’s songs have been recorded by dozens of artists\, including Jimmy Buffet\, Dolly Parton\, Blake Shelton\, Tim McGraw\, Bettye Lavette and Amy Helm. They have also appeared in film and television projects\, including HBO TV’s Yellowstone. \nHighlights of her many awards include: Best Album of the Year\, 2019 International Folk Music Awards; nomination for Best Folk Album of the Year\, 2019 Grammy Awards; #1 Best Singer/Songwriter Album\, L.A. Times 2018; and #1 Song of the Year by Malcolm Gladwell/NPR\, 2018. \n“Gauthier is one of the best songwriters of her generation.” –The Associated Press \nABOUT ROBBIE FULKS \nRobbie Fulks is a founding father of the alt-country scene and an icon in roots music. One of the most gifted songwriters of his generation and deeply rooted in the musical traditions that built an entire genre\, Fulks’s adventurous spirit and eclectic persona have defined a critically-acclaimed 30-year-plus career that has included 16 solo albums and two Grammy® nominations. Fulks performed on NBC’s Today and Late Night with Conan O’Brien shows as well as on PBS’s Austin City Limits. From 2004 to 2008 he hosted an hourlong performance/interview program for XM satellite radio\, “Robbie’s Secret Country.” He’s also made multiple radio appearances on WSM’s “Grand Ole Opry”; PRI’s “Whad’ya Know”; NPR’s “Fresh Air\,” “Mountain Stage\,” and “World Cafe”; and the syndicated “Acoustic Café.” \nFulks says that he learned guitar from his dad\, and banjo from the Earl Scruggs instruction book. His instrumental prowess now is not to be overlooked. As an instrumentalist\, Fulks has accompanied the Irish fiddle master Liz Carroll\, the distinguished jazz violinist Jenny Scheinman\, and the New Orleans pianist Dr. John. \n“[Fulks is] one part artful country\, one part artful sendup of country\, and one part a little of everything else.” – New York Times \n“Robbie Fulks sits atop one of the finest catalogs in underground roots music.” – Bandcamp Daily \nVariety Magazine says “To say that Robbie Fulks has been one of the best singer-songwriters in American roots music over the last quarter-century would be correct\, and maybe a little reductive\, too; he’s one of the best writers in America\, period.” After a stint as a Music Row songwriter in Nashville in the 1990s\, he embarked on a solo career with the Chicago-based indie Bloodshot Records and later\, Geffen and Yep Roc\, releasing a string of albums that helped to define the “alternative country” movement. His 2016 release Upland Stories garnered Grammy® nominations for Best Folk Album and Best American Roots Song for the track “Alabama At Night.” \nAs Variety Magazine puts it\, “Fulks has long been pegged — not inaccurately — as an essential alt-country guy\, having emerged out of the Chicago rocking-roots scene with his first album for Bloodshot in 1996… But in his most recent albums he leaned harder into a more austere folk tradition and now\, on his just-released [2023] debut for Compass Records\, Fulks has planted both feet squarely in bluegrass\, for the moment.” \n“Americana and alt-country hero Robbie Fulks has reached back to his bluegrass roots for his next album\, appropriately titled Bluegrass Vacation.” – Bluegrass Today \n“Bluegrass Vacation is a vibrant celebration.” – No Depression \n… the current album could be considered his most essential effort to date.” – Bluegrass Today\, April 7\, 2023 \nwww.marygauthier.com www.robbiefulks.com \n$30 in advance $35 at the door

SUMMARY:Dana Cooper - Live in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Dana Cooper’s lifelong passion and devotion to music began in Kansas City at age two. His earliest memory is of his father taking him to the Calico Cat\, popping a coin in the jukebox\, and singing along with Hank Williams and Ernest Tubb. \nFast forward to age 20\, when a move to L.A. resulted in a deal with Elektra Records. He recorded his first album with members of “The Section\,” Russ Kunkel and Leland Sklar\, as well as other luminaries such as Jim Horn\, Al Perkins\, Jim Gordon\, Joe Osborne\, and Lee Holdridge. The album still wins accolades today and was recently reissued on the Warner/Japan label. \nAfter several years in California and a year recording in Seattle\, Cooper moved to Texas where he wrote and performed with Shake Russell. They released several independent albums and one album for Southcoast/MCA. In 1988\, Cooper moved to Nashville to continue to hone his songwriting skills. \nCooper’s great success as a troubadour can be measured by his impressive 28 albums and an extensive collection of positive reviews and awards. His latest release\, 2022’s I Can Face the Truth\, landed on five different radio charts — Americana\, Indie Folk\, Alt Folk\, Alt Country\, and Roots. It also ranked #22 on Top Albums for 2022 Chart from Americana Highways\, which deemed it “an unmitigated triumph.” \nCooper is a recipient of the In the Spirit of Folk Award from Folk Alliance International\, and a Best Male Songwriter Award from the Indie Acoustic Project. SUMMARY:Alice Howe & Freebo - Live in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Alice Howe and Freebo present a unique study in contrasts — think 1970s rock / Laurel Canyon songwriters with real instruments\, no autotune\, and a genuine folk soul. \nThese collaborators present a study in contrasts with one a rising voice in Americana music and the other a venerable rock\, folk\, and blues icon. Compelling performers in their own right\, together they lead and support each other in their well-crafted songs sung with flawless harmonies. Freebo seamlessly blends his unique fretless bass stylings with Howe’s honest\, emotionally resonant singing. \nHowe\, who grew up in the Boston suburb of Newton\, MA\, is known for her soaring and soulful vocals. She was named Best Female Artist at the 2023 International Acoustic Music Awards. Freebo is best known for his decade of touring and recording with Bonnie Raitt. He has distinguished himself as one of the great bassists of our time\, playing on recordings with Maria Muldaur\, John Mayall\, Ringo Starr\, Dr. John\, and Neil Young as well as appearing on Saturday Night Live\, The Midnight Special\, The Muppet Show\, and in concert with the legendary Spinal Tap. \nNot willing to simply rest on these achievements\, Freebo has become a highly-regarded singer/songwriter\, now working on his sixth full-length solo CD. A multi-award winner and finalist in numerous songwriting contests\, Freebo’s music reflects his compassionate concern for the world and people around him\, and his lyrics and open stage banter have helped him connect with listeners worldwide and audiences from England to Italy to the Netherlands. \n“To hear Alice Howe sing is to be enraptured by the natural\, unaffected beauty of her voice.” –The Record Review \nwww.alicehowe.com https://freebomusic.com \n$22 in advance $25 at the door \nPhoto: Copyright 2019 Robert M. SUMMARY:The Rough & Tumble - Live in Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Rough & Tumble’s progressive folk style is rooted in acoustic bluegrass\, with lyrics that are both provocative and sensitive. This dynamic duo\, comprised of Mallory Graham and Scott Tyler\, has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of dumpster-folk and thrift-store Americana for over a decade. The Pennsylvania-born Graham and Central California’s Tyler have a knack for weaving together elements of joy\, sorrow\, comedy\, and drama in their music\, leaving audiences on the edge of their seats. \nWriting and performing together since 2007\, Graham and Tyler formed The Rough & Tumble in 2011. In 2015\, when a Nashville landlord left them without heat for twelve days during an ice storm\, the bandmates-turning-spouses decided to hit the road. They sold everything they could\, bought a sixteen-foot camper\, packed up their instruments\, and took to the highway. They’ve been touring relentlessly ever since\, with their two 100-pound rescue dogs\, Mud Puddle and Magpie Mae\, in spite of multiple burnt-up axles\, busted tires\, and consistent water leaks. \nTheir 12-song collection Only This Far is a smorgasbord of eclectic instruments with a stunning blend of harmonious vocals that brings profound emotional depth to this new album. The songs are a symphony of raw\, unbridled emotion\, weaving together tales of love\, loss\, and longing. \nStandout track “Ain’t That The Way” is a shining anthem of perseverance\, a rousing call to action for those who have been told their best isn’t good enough. With its powerful gang vocals and uplifting message\, this song is a triumph of the human spirit\, a celebration of the resilience and determination that lies within us all. The cut “God of War” delves adeptly into heavier subject matter. The band’s ability to seamlessly navigate the contrasts between bold\, unflinching balladry and sunny-day sing-alongs makes their music especially memorable. \n“The Rough & Tumble make music that’s progressive folk style\, rooted in acoustic bluegrass\, with lyrics that are provocative and sensitive on each side as you flip the coin.” -Americana Highways \nwww.theroughandtumble.com \n$18 in advance $20 at the door \nPhoto: Annie Minicuci Fine Art Photography

SUMMARY:Heather Aubrey Lloyd - Live in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning singer-songwriter Heather Aubrey Lloyd is a former member of the Baltimore-based band ilyAIMY\, where she learned to play the African djembe and attack her acoustic guitar with a similar percussive style. In 2008 Lloyd toured with Dar Williams as a percussionist\, while today she is known for her powerful soulful tenor voice that flies from velvet to growl\, providing the right mix of force\, grit\, and sweetness. She has been compared to powerhouses like Janis Joplin and Melissa Etheridge. \nFormerly a journalist\, Lloyd writes songs steeped in narrative and frequently inspired by slam poetry. Her originals “Good Heart” and “If We Come Too Late” recently won the Bernard Ebb Songwriting Award of $10\,000. Lloyd also was named “Most Wanted Artist” in 2018 at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival\, an accolade she won with ilyAIMY in 2012 as well. She is also the 2019 Grand Prize Winner of the prestigious Bernard Ebb Songwriting Award. \n“Lloyd’s voice has a powerful emotional and technical range\, using everything from a delicate whisper to a bluesy growl to breathe life into folk narratives.” – The Morning Call \n“Heather Lloyd’s voice is… rich and emotionally hard-hitting – equal parts velvet darkness\, barely contained heartbreak\, and hard-won\, unstoppable joy.” -– Pat Wictor\, Brother Sun \nhttps://www.heatheraubreylloyd.com/ \n$18 in advance $20 at the door

SUMMARY:Miss Emily - Live in Concert
DESCRIPTION:$18 in advance $20 at the door \nEmily Fennell’s earliest memories are of the dusty Canadian fairgrounds of Southern Ontario. Accompanied by her parents\, she pursued her love of performing at county fair singing competitions. As an adult singer/songwriter\, her work ethic was honed in Southern Ontario’s juke joints\, bars\, and nightclubs. \nWhen the pandemic made it impossible for the Kingston\, Ontario\, artist to perform in front of audiences\, Miss Emily took material from her live concerts to create the album Live at the Isabel. It was nominated for the 2022 Juno Blues Album of the Year. \nThe Kingston (Ontario) Standard has said of Miss Emily Fennell that she can bring the house down just as well as Janis Joplin could. It’s no wonder that she won Toronto’s Blues Maple Blues Festival’s New Artist of the Year award as well as Female Vocalist of the Year awards in both 2020 and 2022. \nFennell’s naked commitment to the truth has never been more apparent than in her recent studio album\, Defined by Love. It’s a warts-and-all diary of a year filled with confusion and anger\, lost relationships\, and found humanity. As John Kereiff of Hot Wax Album Reviews commented\, “When it comes to soulful singing\, there aren’t many that can hold a candle to Miss Emily. … her soul-drenched gumbo of blues\, old-school R&B\, and jazz reaches right into your chest cavity to give the ol’ ticker a good squeeze.” \n“Do yourself a favour and catch a live show. Quite simply\, WOW.” – Bill Welychka\, Kingston Whig Standard (March 2018) \n“An angelic voice with just a hint of sultry devilishness. This gal is a rocket ready to take off!” – Rob Baker\, The Tragically Hip \nhttps://themissemily.com/

With his “smooth\, dark baritone” (Washington Post) his incredible range\, and thoughtful\, dramatic phrasing\, Garnet is widely considered by fans and critics alike to be one of the finest singers anywhere. His music\, like the man himself\, is literate\, passionate\, highly sensitive\, and deeply purposeful. SUMMARY:AND - by Aynsley Vandenbroucke
DESCRIPTION:Aynsley Vandenbroucke\nAnd \nSaturday\, July 22 8:00 pm / Sunday\, July 23 3:00 pm / Tickets $20 \n“Aynsley Vandenbroucke has been exploring the relation of literary formalism to the human body in a way few writers\, if any\, are doing.” —Hyperallergic \nIn And\, Aynsley Vandenbroucke uses experimental literary devices to create a series of live\, three-dimensional essays. She plays with lines between fact and fiction\, narrative and abstraction\, legibility and complexity. She works with—and against—the role of formal structures in writing\, moving\, and making a life. \nSome words that tussle for prominence in the piece are: art\, life\, teaching\, body\, marriage\, knowing\, divorce\, friendship\, contradiction\, form\, home\, house\, community\, uncertainty\, gentleness\, question\, power\, sex\, dance. \nCalled “gifted” by the New Yorker and “an elegant sensitive thinker” by the New York Times\, Aynsley Vandenbroucke has been making performance in NYC since 2000. She co-founded Mount Tremper Arts and served as co-curator there until 2014. Vandenbroucke teaches at Princeton University and is obsessed with the relationships between reading\, writing\, learning to live\, and making dance. \nPurchase tickets online here\, or call 845-688-9893.

Tremper\, NY 12457 \nWhen should we follow a recipe\, and when should we break the rules? In this live cooking show\, artist Kristin Worrall demonstrates\, prepares\, and serves her audience dessert in real time.
