SUMMARY:Japanese Knotweed presentation by CRISP
DESCRIPTION:The Catskill Regional Invasive Species Partnership (CRISP) and the Emerson Resort & Spa invite you to attend a complimentary Japanese Knotweed presentation by CRISP at the Emerson Resort & Spa on June 9th at 1:00-2:30pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJapanese Knotweed is a common streamside and roadside invader that can reproduce from the tiniest root fragment\, and it has been expanding along many Catskill rivers and streams.\n\n\n\nJapanese Knotweed is exceedingly difficult to manage and CRISP staff will discuss options for management; they will cover current best management practices\, experimental methods\, and the future of Japanese Knotweed biocontrol. And we will take a short walk to a nearby Japanese Knotweed infestation for a close-up look at the plant and discussion on how site factors impact management options and decisions.\n\n\n\nTo sign up or for more info go to:\n\n\nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf81brNEQCS308UKBb3PP3CJJwVEzQ9HdvPbjn_T4d-RMNLuQ/viewform. SUMMARY:Astronomy and Solar Eclipse Presentation with Bob Berman
DESCRIPTION:BOB BERMAN: Astronomy and Solar Eclipse Presentation\nSaturday\, March 23\n4-5 pm in the Emerson Great Room \nThe Emerson Resort & Spa is pleased to announce an informative presentation led by famed astronomer Bob Berman on astronomical events visible in the Catskills night sky.  This year brings a series of brilliant spectacles\, including the solar eclipse on April 8. \nOne of the world’s top astronomers\, Bob Berman is the longtime astronomy editor of the Old Farmers Almanac and\, with the casual demeanor that makes him an ongoing hit on weekly NPR radio shows and such TV programs as Late Night with David Letterman\, Berman will discuss the astronomical discoveries\, conjunctions\, meteor showers and Northern Lights chances we can expect between now and year’s end\, paying special attention to best ways to view the upcoming April 8 solar eclipse. \nAppropriate for anyone ages 7 to 99\, audience members will get to hold an actual asteroid and hear NASA “insider” stories of strange unpublished events including the greatest secret behind the bizarre “first step” of Neil Armstrong and the two homes in our own region that were penetrated by meteorites. \nThis is a complimentary event.  Seating is first come\, first serve. For more information and to register go to https://emersonresort.com/experiences/#!/e/astronomy-presentation-by-bob-berman-c5c2ad7c/ \n\nAbout Bob Berman\nBob Berman is the world’s most widely read astronomer. Since the mid-1990s his celebrated Strange Universe feature has been published monthly in Astronomy magazine\, while also appearing in each issue of Discover  from 1989-2006. Berman is the astronomy editor of the Old Farmers Almanac. He has authored more than a thousand mass-market articles and been a guest on such TV shows as Today\, CBS This Morning\, and Late Night with David Letterman.  Bob Berman published 12 popular science books with numerous foreign editions\, most published by Harper Collins and Little Brown. Radio listeners in seven states hear his Strange Universe program Sunday mornings during NPR’s Weekend Edition. For 17 years starting in 1979\, Berman created and conducted the summer astronomy program at Yellowstone Park for the National Park Service and Yellowstone Institute.  Berman owns and manages educational programs at  two Ulster County observatories\, and the Storm King Observatory at Cornwall\, New York. \n

SUMMARY:How To Have a Successful Garden in White Tail Deer Country
DESCRIPTION:After a long winter\, gardeners look forward to the growing season for fresh vegetables and flowers from their gardens. Part of making it a rewarding experience is knowing how to deal with insects\, diseases\, rabbits\, woodchucks and deer. The deer population has exploded\, making them a primary garden pest. But deer don’t have to win the battle\, according to Wendy Tremper Wollerton\, a seasoned gardener\, who spent more than 25 years living on a property heavily trafficked by deer.\n\nBy trial and error\, attending classes and listening to the advice of others\, she developed a large garden\, not fenced\, where deer could walk through but were not interested in the plants. Learn what plants are not “deer candy”\, different choices in fencing and deterrents that can lead to a beautiful garden.\n\nYou can join via Zoom – shorturl.at/hovSU\nor go to the library website or Facebook page
