Learn about the distant geological history of the Catskill Mountains. Robert and Johanna will transport you 400 million years into the past and you will be visiting the Catskills when they were very much different than the land of Rip Van Winkle that we know today!

You’ll also find out tidbits like the world’s oldest known fossil forest ecology is found right here in our mountains, that the Catskill Mountains were a great, petrified delta, and that the Catskills are a great place to go fossil hunting.

A small reception will be held after the lecture and they will be available to answer your questions, identify your specimens and sign copies of their new book “The Catskills, A Geologic Guide, 4th expanded edition.”

Admission is free to this event but we ask that a small donation be made to the Museum, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, to help defray our costs.

Robert Titus is a professor of geology at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y., and Johanna Titus is a professor of biology at Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Robert and Johanna are well known throughout the Catskills and Hudson Valley for their many newspaper and magazine articles and their several books, all about Catskill geological history.
