Community Week Returns to the Emerson Resort & Spa
Lectures, Activities, and Special Discounts for Local Residents
 
Mt. Tremper, New York (October 31, 2019) – The Emerson Resort & Spa presents its third annual Community Week, November 11-16, 2019.  During this week, the Emerson invites the community to enjoy lectures, book readings and signings, a musical performance, and onsite activities either complimentary or at a discount to the public.

Music in the Great Room – Complimentary 
Enjoy an evening of pedal steel and acoustic guitar.  Evocative and refreshingly melodic, Jude Roberts’ music makes you feel as though you’ve rediscovered a song you never knew. This emerging Americana artist lives in America’s most famous small town – Woodstock, NY – a musically supportive and socially vibrant place for many songwriters, past and present.  Jude is joined by Rob Stein, who has played with the Bob Dylan Band and The Mammals Featuring Mike + Ruthy.

Kathryn J. Schneider – Birding the Hudson Valley, A guide to birds and birdwatching in the Hudson Valley  
Presentation and discussion in the Great Room – Complimentary
Kathryn J. Schneider gives a visual and verbal presentation about Hudson Valley birds highlighted in her book.  More than just a collection of bird-finding tips, Birding the Hudson Valley explores Hudson Valley history, ecology, bird biology, and tourism. It describes sites in every county in the region, including farms, grasslands, old fields, wetlands, orchards, city parks, rocky summits, forests, rivers, lakes, and salt marshes.  Designed for birders of all levels of skill and interest, this beautifully illustrated book contains explicit directions to more than eighty locations, as well as useful species accounts and hints for finding the valley’s most sought-after birds.
 
Kathryn J. Schneider, a Hudson Valley native, has spent decades studying the behavior, ecology, and distribution of birds. An award-winning author, teacher, and conservationist, she is a past president of the New York State Ornithological Association.  Kathryn has been a NYSOA member for 24 years, holding many positions including those of president, vice president, and director and has been a driving force in raising awareness about NYSOA in the birding community.

Presentation and discussion in the Great Room – Complimentary
Smith discusses the history and development of the Ashokan Rail Trail and its part in the future of the Empire State Rail Trail network.

NY Times best-selling author Holly George-Warren – Janis Her Life and Music
Presentation and discussion in the Great Room – Complimentary
Book reading, signing and music in the Great Room co-hosted with the Golden Notebook. Robert Burke Warren and Calder Mansfield bring the music of Janis Joplin to life.
